Privacy Policy

Last updated: May 21, 2026

1. Introduction

Welcome to ToneSeed ("we," "our," or "us"). We are committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use our mobile application ToneSeed (the "App").

2. Information We Collect

ToneSeed is designed with a privacy-first approach. Your training data and preferences are stored locally on your device by default. If you create an account, your data may also be synced to our cloud servers. We collect the following categories of information:

  • Account information — if you create an account, we collect your email address and authentication credentials. If you sign in with Apple or Google, we receive the basic profile information those providers share with us (such as your email and, where available, your name).
  • Profile information — if you choose to use ToneSeed's social features, you may set a username and display name. Together with your progress signals (such as level, total XP, daily streak, last activity date, and achievement count) these make up your public profile, which is visible to other ToneSeed users (see Section 7).
  • Social connections — friend relationships, leaderboard group memberships, and pending invitations you send or receive.
  • Training and progress data — information generated as you use the App, such as your exercise results, answers, achievements, practice routines, and any content you add (e.g., custom reference songs or vocal range results).
  • Preferences — app settings you configure, such as your preferred instrument, language, theme, notification preferences, and training options.
  • Push notification tokens — if you enable push notifications, we store the device tokens issued by your platform's push service (Apple Push Notification service or Firebase Cloud Messaging) so we can deliver notifications to your device.
  • Usage analytics — aggregated events about how the App is used (e.g., which features you interact with and how often), without personal content you create.
  • Device and diagnostic data — technical information such as device model, operating system version, app version, and crash reports used to diagnose issues.

3. How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect to:

  • Provide, maintain, and improve the App
  • Sync your progress across devices if you create an account
  • Process subscriptions and in-app purchases through third-party payment platforms
  • Analyze usage patterns to improve the experience and prioritize new features
  • Diagnose crashes and maintain app stability
  • Operate social features — show your public profile to other users, rank you on friend and group leaderboards, and deliver invitations to and from other users
  • Send local practice reminders and, if you opt in, server-sent push notifications (such as friend activity, leaderboard invitations, and weekly progress recaps)
  • Respond to your support requests

4. Data Storage and Security

Your training data and preferences are stored locally on your device. If you create an account, your data is also synced to cloud servers operated by third-party infrastructure providers. We implement appropriate technical and organizational measures to protect your information, but no method of transmission or storage is 100% secure.

5. Third-Party Services

We rely on third-party service providers to operate the App. These providers may process your information on our behalf for purposes such as:

  • Cloud storage and authentication — hosting your account and synced training data.
  • Authentication providers — allowing you to sign in with third-party accounts (such as Apple or Google). These providers share basic profile information with us when you choose to use them.
  • Analytics — understanding how the App is used so we can improve it.
  • Crash and diagnostic reporting — identifying and fixing technical issues.
  • Subscription and payment processing — managing in-app purchases and subscription status.
  • Push notification delivery — delivering push notifications via Apple Push Notification service (APNs) and Firebase Cloud Messaging (FCM).
  • Configuration and release management — delivering app configuration and compatibility information.

Each third-party service operates under its own privacy policy, which we encourage you to review.

6. Microphone Access

ToneSeed may request access to your device's microphone for features such as vocal range testing and pitch detection. Audio is processed locally on your device and is never recorded, stored, or transmitted.

7. Social Features

ToneSeed includes optional social features — friends, leaderboard groups, and public profiles. Using these features makes some of your information visible to other ToneSeed users:

  • Public profile — your username, display name, level, total XP, daily streak, last activity date, and achievement count can be viewed by any signed-in ToneSeed user who looks up your profile. You can mark your profile as private in the App settings, which hides it from username search and public profile lookups; users you are already connected with through friends or leaderboard groups will still see the stats shared in those contexts.
  • Friends — when you send or accept a friend request, the other user can see that you are connected. Friend requests and the resulting friendship are stored on our servers.
  • Leaderboard groups — when you join or are invited to a leaderboard group, your username, display name, and performance stats (such as XP earned in the active period) are shown to other members of that group. Group invitations you send or receive are stored on our servers until they are accepted, declined, revoked, or expire.

You can stop using social features at any time by leaving groups, removing friends, or deleting your account (see Section 10). When you leave a group or remove a friend, the corresponding relationship is deleted from our servers.

8. Notifications

ToneSeed sends two kinds of notifications, both of which are opt-in:

  • Local notifications — practice reminders that are scheduled on your device and are not sent from our servers.
  • Push notifications — server-sent notifications about events such as friend requests, group invitations, leaderboard activity, and weekly progress recaps. To deliver these, we store the device tokens issued by your platform's push service (APNs on iOS, FCM on Android) and the metadata needed to address each notification (such as the recipient user, notification type, and locale). You can disable push notifications at any time in your device settings or in the ToneSeed notification preferences.

9. Data Retention

Your local data remains on your device until you uninstall the App or clear app data. If you have an account, your cloud data is retained for as long as your account exists. Analytics and crash report data is retained according to the retention policies of the respective service providers.

10. Account Deletion

You can delete your account at any time from within the App settings. When you do, your personal data — including your profile, training and progress data, friend connections, group memberships, outgoing and incoming invitations, push notification tokens, and stored notifications — is permanently erased from our cloud servers, and local data on your device is cleared during the deletion process. An anonymized audit record of the deletion may be retained for security purposes.

11. Your Rights

Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have the right to:

  • Access the personal data we hold about you
  • Request correction of inaccurate data
  • Request deletion of your data (see Account Deletion above)
  • Object to or restrict processing of your data
  • Request a copy of your data in a portable format

To exercise any of these rights, please contact us at the email address below. We will respond to your request within a reasonable timeframe.

12. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by updating the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. We encourage you to review this policy periodically.
